The FIA High School serves grades 7-12 and grants an American high-school diploma after the successful completion of the 12th grade year. Graduation requirements resemble American secondary standards and rigorous college preparatory studies found at the most selective private American day and boarding schools.

In the High School years (9th through 12th grades), basic introductory courses, taught at a college-preparatory level with an emphasis on independent learning skills, personal motivation, collaborative or individualized learning, and service, students are offered with a variety of electives to pursue their interests in depth. In the 10th and 11th grades, students are tested with the PSAT/NMSQT examinations. 11th and 12th graders take a variety of subject-area tests at the Advanced Placement and SAT II levels, depending on the student’s individual ability.

The high-school curriculum receives continuous review, from year to year, as part of FIA’s own mission and the requirements of FIA’s accreditation and certification standards, governed by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Commission on International Education (CIE)

All students take 7 classes each semester of a two-semester school year. Graduation requirements are determined by the year of entry into FIA.

“The Fairfield International Academy was opened at a turning point for my family as our son had changed two schools in less than a year. The academy offers first class teachers with both Jamaican and international background in an individual setting with a holistic way of learning and always challenging him. Our first teacher’s meeting was very different to what we were used to as it was a student-led conference. We were so surprised when we walked into the room and met with the first teacher of the day and she turned around and asked Ameer if he was ready.

Our son opened his computer and started with a PowerPoint presentation of the subject going down the list of the topic he was to have learnt and the different ways both his parents and teacher could help him and how he could do better. We were so impressed with his explanation and detailed information on all the subjects, as he had to do that for all of them. I just remembered leaving the school that day feeling so happy and relieved that finally a school that understood him and would challenge him right here in our town.”
