Physical Education, Health and Athletics at FIA
The current campus on Dr. Aston King Highway supports a full Physical Education programme, as well as soccer, volleyball, swimming, SCUBA, sailing, standard ball sports, ultimate frisbee, etc. FIA athletes have won national and international competitions in tennis, soccer and swimming. The academic curriculum combines health and physical education in the classroom and outdoors into various spaces and supplies that support the full growth of the students in a physical, nutritional and emotional health curriculum.
Complementing the athletics programmes, there are a variety of affinity groups that meet at lunch periods, before or after school. All have an FIA staff member or hired outside coach/mentor to supervise and direct the activities. Some current examples include, but are not limited to: Chess Club, Soccer Club, Yearbook Staff, SCUBA Certification, Culinary Club, Technology and Robotics Club, FIA Swim Team, Key Club, JCDC (Jamaican Culture and Development Commission competition), Model United Nations, Future Entrepreneurs, Music Improv Club, and Student Council.
The FIA Board of Governors has made the buildout of the athletic facilities its top priority. It is actively working to complete paperwork, architectural plans, landscaping and design plans for FIA’s new campus. Track and soccer field to be built first at the new campus.
