FIA Prep welcomes children ages 4 to 12 into its PreKindergarten to 6th grade. A full application is required for admission. FIA Prep has non-graded classrooms that are generally organized by age (as of September 1)
- The Cottage 4 – 6 years old
- The Blue Class 6 – 8 years old
- The Orange Class 8 – 10 years old
- The Yellow Class 10 – 12 years old
All children are placed with their peers by age and given work according to their ability. The teacher will push, gently but firmly, to improve. Children will progress at their own pace, sometimes in rapid spurts and sometimes more slowly. Most importantly, it is the child’s individual, personal progress, not in comparison with others. We believe that blurring the lines between grade levels frees children to move forward in their learning as smoothly as possible. Children can develop at their own pace, without being restricted to work at a specific grade level.
A child usually spends two years in each class, but one or three years may suit some children. Every year the teachers evaluate children’s progress to decide where they will be placed. The school reserves the right to place a child in the most suitable class.
The teaching staff is a tightly knit group of gifted and caring professionals. They are committed to the school ideals, and enjoy the school as “a place to grow” themselves. Each teacher is enthusiastically striving to create the best learning environment for your children. The Assistant Principal is closely involved in all the classrooms and the children’s work. The staff meets regularly to discuss ideas and strategies together as we know all our students and their families well. We are constantly developing our programmes to enhance the children’s experience. Ideas are often initiated by parent feedback, in conjunction with teacher input and individual students’ needs.
