THE LARGER FIA
COMMUNITY
Private school, public service
FIA is proud of and committed to its role in the Montego and Jamaican communities in ways that our students can participate in the local educational, cultural, socio-economic and commercial growth of the Montego Bay area and, indeed, the country at large. To that end, FIA’s vision for service means “empowering students to become courageous and compassionate global citizens. Through a rigorous and holistic curriculum, we not only challenge students to rise above limitations but also to achieve ambitious goals with integrity, intelligence, and an entrepreneurial mindset.” Although the opportunities vary from year to year, FIA students, staff and
families have participated in the Jamaican Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run, the International Coastal Clean-Up Day, the CUMI (Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill), our own 5K Color Run, and others. The school’s own Key Club chapter meets weekly throughout the year on service learning, discussions and the organisation of service projects which they lead, including a partnership with the Watford hill School and the One Love Learning Foundation. Members of Key Club actively plan and participate in regional, national and international projects, just as our students are coached to see and solve real-world problems, meeting with area leaders who inspire and collaborate with them in common, local goals.
